I lived in Khon Kaen, Thailand in the fall of 2005.
I volunteered with Mercy International, an organization based out of Australia. They have built many orphanages and schools in different areas of the country. While I was in Thailand I traveled to the different schools and orphanages, but spent the majority of my time at an orphanage in Khon Kaen. It is a home specifically for children who have AIDS or are HIV positive. I helped take care of the children and taught an English class.
I loved every minute that I spent in Thailand and will always remember the lessons I learned there.
I am finally going back! I will be in Thailand with a group from Palm Valley Church July 6-16. I am so excited! While on this trip I will get to go to the same places and see the people I met 5 years ago, and see how much it has changed. We will be working with Mercy International again in Khon Kaen, Phetchabun and Phrae. The team I am going with also has the awesome opportunity to do some programs in schools.
I will try to update this blog while I am in Thailand as often as I can, hopefully daily if I can get internet access. And...if you leave the most comments, maybe I'll bring back a present from Thailand for you :)
